A Longer Table strengthens school cafeterias so children are nourished and prepared to learn by building the workforce and systems to support scratch cooking.

Building a Better Path from Farm to School

Farm to school is most effective when it becomes part of how schools operate, rather than a one-time purchase or special event.

In coordination with Indiana Grown for Schools, A Longer Table is helping build a more connected approach to farm-to-school across Central Indiana. By bringing schools, producers, community partners, and public agencies to the same table, we can address shared challenges, create stronger pathways for local food, and build an approach that can grow and last.

Through this work, schools and partners can:
  • Build stronger relationships with local farmers and food producers
  • Find local foods that work for school menus and kitchens
  • Make it easier to plan, purchase, and prepare local ingredients
  • Give school nutrition teams practical tools and opportunities to work together
  • Help students connect what they eat at school to where their food comes from
  •

Take the Next Step
